1. Was tangible personal property exchanged?

If yes, complete the tax on sale of business form (TOSOB) and return with payment within 10 days of closing.
If no, complete the tax on sale of business form (TOSOB) and return within 10 days of closing.

Vacation home rental?
1. If yes, contact the city planning department to see if a (VHR) vacation home rental permit is needed.

4. Will sales take place only during a single or one-time special event?

If yes, contact City of Steamboat Springs Special Events Department
A one-time event use single event sales tax application and deposit is required. Email salestax@steamboatsprings.net or 970-871-8233

5. Does your business or rental property use water?

If your business or rental property is located within the City of Steamboat Springs Water District, or to find out if it is, contact utilities@steamboatsprings.net to obtain information in regard to rates, billing schedules, outstanding balances and to open a new account.
If your business or rental property is within the Mt Werner Water District, please contact that office at 970-879-2424.
If your business or rental property is within the Routt County Water District, please contact that office at 970-870-5588.

3. Does my license ever expire?: No, the licenses are valid and active unless an account closure notice is received.

4. When is my sales tax return due?: Sales tax returns are due on the 20th of the month following the end of the reporting period (i.e. January would be due February 20th, Quarter 1 (Jan - Mar) would be due April 20th).

5. How do I change my address?: Complete the account change form located here. Account Change Form

6. What is the City Sales Tax Rate: As of 1/1/17 the City sales tax rate is 4.5%

7. What is the total sales tax rate I should charge in the City of Steamboat Springs?: As of 1/1/17 8.4% (4.5% City, 2.9% State and 1% County). Please contact us for additional information regarding sales taxes on lodging.

8. How do I file my Sales Tax Return?: File online at www.xpressbillpay.com or complete a paper return.

9. How do I know if I am located in city limits?: Use the interactive map to look up your address. Interactive Map

10. Does the City of Steamboat have a Use Tax?: The City of Steamboat Springs imposes use tax on automotive vehicles, construction materials and factory built housing. The City does not have a consumer use tax.

11. Is the Colorado Retail Delivery Fee taxable?: Effective July 1, 2022 the City of Steamboat Springs will tax the Colorado Retail Delivery Fee as per our current definition of purchase price.
