[ARCHIVED] Reminder of Required Revocable Licenses and Sign Code

The City would like to remind everyone that a Revocable License is required for any private improvements, amenities, and items located within the City or State Right of Way (ROW). This includes permanent items such as signs, and awnings, and portable items such as sandwich boards, outdoor seating, outdoor displays, bike racks, clothing racks and anything else located in the ROW. Revocable Licenses are required to be renewed annually through the City’s Planning Department for $85.

Some important things to remember when thinking of putting out a sign or any other items on the sidewalk in front of your business include:

• You must purchase a revocable permit, and provide evidence of insurance.
• Pennant type banners with or without commercial wording are not allowed per the sign code.
• The code is in effect for public property in all of the Steamboat Springs city limits.
• When placing a sign on your property, there are additional standards that need to be followed in regards to number, size, content and location. For more information on sign regulations see Section 26 – Article IX in the City’s Municipal Code.

Please contact Barb Wheeler, Code Enforcement Officer at bwheeler@steamboatsprings.net or 970-871-8274 with any questions on the code, and/or to purchase your revocable permit.
