The City of Steamboat Springs’ acclaimed public golf course has hired Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) Professional Cody Hasten as its new Head Golf Professional. Hasten brings a decade of PGA knowledge to his new position along with significant experience in retail merchandising, guest relations, operations and instruction, especially across junior and women’s programs.
“We’re excited to have Cody join Haymaker and see his expertise guide the facility into the future,” said John Overstreet, director of Parks & Recreation at the City of Steamboat Springs. “It was a highly competitive process with 59 applications from across the country. Two rounds of in-person interviews narrowed the field from nine to six finalists and Cody emerged as the perfect fit.”
Most recently, Hasten held the Assistant Golf Professional position with Columbine Country Club in Littleton, Colorado. Prior to joining Columbine, he served as the Assistant Golf Professional at the Golf Club at Bear Dance in Larkspur, Colorado, and worked at Eagle-Vail and The Broadmoor Golf Clubs during PGA Internships. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in PGA Golf Management, Hasten has held a Class A PGA Professional certification for eight years and been a member of the PGA for 12 years. In addition, he is a certified instructor with the Titleist Performance Institute, US Kids Golf and First Tee Programs.
“As Colorado natives, my family and I are ecstatic for the opportunity to become a part of the Steamboat Springs community,” said Cody Hasten. “I have a true passion for the game of golf and am humbled by the chance to share my passion with every guest who steps through our doors. I look forward to meeting every member of our golfing community and becoming a part of the Haymaker family.”
Hasten will oversee all aspects of the facility and report to Overstreet, working in collaboration with the Golf Management Committee. The head pro was previously an independent contractor; however, the position was reexamined and moved internally within the city early in 2018 by the committee and city staff.
“Through this process, we’ve seen that Haymaker has a tremendous reputation within the golf industry,” said Katie O’Hara, Golf Management Committee chair. “Our goal is to make Haymaker its absolute best, grow the sport locally and provide the highest level of service to the playing public. I’m excited for Haymaker’s future and the direction golf is headed for the community and believe Cody will be a tremendous asset.”

Haymaker Golf Course is a championship caliber 233-acre, Keith Foster designed, public course that was shaped to resemble the contours of the surrounding landscape. Working closely with the Audubon Society’s Signature Status Program, Foster and the City of Steamboat Springs built a course that elk, eagles, and blue herons call home. Haymaker welcomes and challenges golfers of all ability levels: from novice to professional. In addition, Haymaker enjoys a full practice facility including driving range, putting greens and pitching area, a retail pro shop, Patio Grill restaurant and clubhouse.
