The City of Steamboat has published the final October 2017 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ October sales taxes are 7.73% more compared to the October 2016 collections or an increase of $106,763. Year to date sales tax collection is 3.68% more than year to date through October 2016.
When comparing this October to the prior October, the greatest categorical increases were in lodging and amenities at 35.02% and marijuana at 10.23%. Notable increases in collections by area were 37.10% for the Regional area and 6.23% for the Highway 40 corridor area.
Accommodation Tax, with the passing of referendum 2A, is now primarily dedicated to local trail projects and Yampa Street improvements. Additionally, a small amount is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. October collections saw an increase of 37.07% compared to October 2016.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. October 2017 use tax collections are $57,589 more compared to October 2016. Year to date use tax collections are $760,799 more through the same period last year or up 58%.
