[ARCHIVED] Suspicious Activity Prompts Concern

Steamboat Springs Police are looking for additional information following a report of suspicious activity in a residential neighborhood located between downtown and the mountain.

Concerned parents contacted the Steamboat Springs Police yesterday to report an unknown male had approached their elementary school-aged children while they were playing unsupervised in the yard of their home at approximately 6 p.m. on December 4th.

According to the children, an older Caucasian male with silver-grey hair approached them as they played outside in the snow. The man was carrying a cane and spoke English with an accent. The man made an offer to take the children to a safe place in his car. The children declined the ride and the man hailed a nearby vehicle by waving with his hand. Upon entering the vehicle, a small dark color dog was observed. The vehicle drove away without incident.

The lack of specifics on the location of the incident is intentional, explained Commander Annette Dopplick, “We are sharing this information out of an abundance of caution. The circumstance may be quite mundane. If you have any information, please give us a call.”

Contact the Steamboat Springs Police Department at (970) 879-1144.
