The City of Steamboat Springs has initiated a planning process to prepare a Comprehensive Parks, Recreation, Open Space, Trails and River (PROSTR) Master Plan in conjunction with Logan Simpson, an award-winning landscape architecture & environmental planning firm.
The plan will provide a 10-year vision for the city’s park and recreation facilities and amenities, as well as an action plan for implementing this vision.
The public is invited to stop by the first public open house being held for the Master Plan where they can learn about the planning process, existing facility inventory, and trends affecting outdoor recreation. The event is schedule for Thursday, December 7 from 5:#0pm to 7:30pm at the Community Center.
Your input is needed to identify what you enjoy most about the parks and recreation system, what needs to be changed or improved at existing facilities, and what could be added. Whether you are an avid enthusiast of Steamboat’s parks and recreation offerings or have never used our facilities or amenities before, we want to hear from you!
The Master Plan will outline recommendations for all aspects of the Steamboat Springs park system, including the park system mission and goals based on community demand, supply and needs analysis. Throughout the planning process over the next few months, the team will affirm goals and objectives, analyze trends and demographics, evaluate supply and demand, and provide recommendations and priorities for improvements throughout the parks, recreation, open space, trails and river system.
It’s important to understand that two concurrent engagement efforts are currently underway, the Parks, Recreation, Open Space, Trails and River Master Plan and Howelsen Park Vision 2040. The public will have opportunities to participate in both efforts; however, the campaigns will work to eliminate duplication, share gained information and maximize public participation in an integrated manner.
