The City of Steamboat Springs is hosting its first Community Workshop on the Yampa River Health Assessment & Streamflow Management Plan on Monday, November 6, from 6-7:30PM at the Steamboat Springs Community Center (1605 Lincoln Avenue).
The city and its partners are leading the development of this plan to improve the health and resiliency of the Yampa River through town in the face of shifting climatic conditions and water use demands. The plan will identify target flows to support river health and community needs and it will prioritize actions to achieve progress toward healthy river targets. It should be noted, this plan will examine river health and flows holistically and is not intended to focus exclusively on river user conflicts associated with tubing.
Public engagement is a critical component of the planning process and key to the success of the program. The upcoming Community Workshop offers the opportunity for interested parties to understand the process and objectives of the plan and to learn the results of the stream health assessment completed on the 12-mile stretch of river from the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area to the City’s Waste Water Treatment Facility.
Participants will be asked to share what is important to them about the health of the Yampa River and to offer ideas on action types that will preserve this community’s valued resource.
