With the majority of the work complete in this section, crews will perform additional hydro-seeding and miscellaneous punch list items over the coming week.

YAMPA STREET
Yampa Street crews continue to wind down work on the project and this past week completed a new concrete sidewalk at the intersection of 6th & Yampa and at the corner of 12th & Lincoln Ave. Crews began work to replace concrete where old utility poles used to be in the Howelsen Place snowmelt area in front of Carl’s.  All asphalt patching and road striping work is complete for the year and the parking lot at 9th between the Ambulance Barn and Backdoor Sports reopened with a new traffic pattern.

  • Yampa Valley Electric will continue installation of street lights.
  • Over the coming weeks there will be minor construction activity between 5th and 12th Streets along Yampa as crews finish small punch list work and clean up. The overhead festival lighting system will also be extended to the 10th Street block.

EMERALD PARK ACCESS & RR CROSSING

Roadway closures of Ski Town Way between Trafalgar Drive and Emerald Park Way are in effect and will continue during the week of October 23.  Through access circulation is not available along Ski Town Way. Access to the Hampton Inn is available via the now paved Emerald Park Way and access to the building at 625 South Lincoln is via the open construction zone from Trafalgar Drive.  Be aware as construction activity will still occur through open construction zones. Detour signs will be placed to direct motorists accordingly.

Crews will continue to work on rebuilding the road section of Ski Town Way between Emerald Park Way and Trafalgar Drive. Work will continue along all stretches of the roadway including sidewalk, curb/gutter and grading.  Access to all businesses will be kept open throughout construction and detour signs direct motorists accordingly.  A project hotline (970-871-8243) and email (emeraldparkaccess@united-gj.com) has been set up for updates, notifications and information.

MAJESTIC VALLEY CIRCLE/STEAMBOAT HOTEL
This project, which started a little over a month ago, entailed the construction of a bus shelter on a concrete pad (relocating the existing shelter in the Steamboat Hotel parking lot) as well as curb and gutter and an attached 6-foot sidewalk which will connect to the existing Majestic Valley sidewalk along Majestic Valley Circle.

While the existing shelter is expected to be moved early next week, Steamboat Springs Transit began utilizing the new bus stop location on US 40 in front of the Steamboat Hotel this past week. The bus will no longer turn into the hotel and the new stop is expected to reduce route times by up to four minutes. The transit stop is being funded 80% by an FTA Grant obtained by the city in 2016 via CDOT.

US 40 STEAMBOAT WEST

CDOT crews continue to work on improvements to the intersection of US 40 and Elk River Road on target for the late November competition timeframe. Traffic speed through the work zone remain at 25 mph.

  • The Fairfield Inn bus stop is not available for passenger pick-up/drop-off in this location as buses will only be turning around in the driveway/US Highway 40. Passengers need to use the new Steamboat Hotel or Holiday Inn stops due to hotel construction in this area.
  • On the west side of town, the Elk River Road bus stop has been temporarily moved to the east (towards downtown). Temporary bus stop signage with departure times is displayed at the stop.
  • The Copper Mountain Estates bus stop, near Indian Trails westbound, moved due to a construction project at Indian Trails and Highway 40.  A temporary stop, approximately 100 feet closer to downtown, has been set up.
