The City of Steamboat has published the final August 2017 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ August sales taxes are 0.77% more compared to the August 2016 collections or an increase of $14,772. Year to date sales tax collection is 3.28% more than year to date through August 2016.
When comparing this August to the prior August, the greatest categorical increases were in marijuana at 9.23% and utilities at 7.70%. Notable increases in collections by area were 16.93% for the Regional area and 4.73% for the West Steamboat area.
Accommodation Tax, with the passing of referendum 2A, is now primarily dedicated to local trail projects and Yampa Street improvements. Additionally, a small amount is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. August collections saw a slight increase of 1.38% compared to August 2016.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. August 2017 use tax collections are $186,177 less compared to August 2016. Year to date use tax collections are $489,102 more through the same period last year.
