[ARCHIVED] Water Providers Lift Restrictions At End of Month

The water providers in the Steamboat Springs area – the City of Steamboat Springs, Mt. Werner Water District, Steamboat II Metro District, and Tree Haus Metro District – announced today that the mandatory water restrictions enacted May 1, 2017 will be lifted on September 30.

“With the lifting of Stage 2 Water Restrictions, we are asking residents to continue to consider how they are using water both inside and outside their homes,” said Frank Alfone, General Manager of the Mt. Werner Water District.  “Together, we can continue to conserve water over the fall and winter, helping put us in a better position come spring.”

Summer water usage data indicates that, under mandatory stage 2 water restrictions, the Steamboat community continued to reduce its daily water use through the summer months.  This is significant as stream flows in the Yampa and Fish Creek dropped lower this summer than they did last summer, seeing a voluntary river closure implemented on August 31.

As of September 18, Fish Creek Reservoir was at 86% capacity, which is a level that is consistent for this time of year.  The reservoir storage curve typically begins to flatten at this time of year as the discharge rate is reduced.

“We want to thank residents and businesses for their compliance, which allowed us to reduce water consumption by 15%,” said Jon Snyder, Public Works Director for the City of Steamboat Springs. “That represents over 180 acre-feet of water conserved.”

Rebates for water-efficient replacement toilets, dishwashers, and clothes washers are still available for Mt. Werner Water customers by calling the Mt. Werner Water office 879-2424 or for City customers by calling City Hall at 879-2060.
