[ARCHIVED] Fourth of July Fire Works Show Cancelled

Due to high temperatures, dry conditions and a growing fire concern, the City of Steamboat Springs has cancelled the fireworks show scheduled for Tuesday, July 4.

Police and fire department staff along with fireworks officials reviewed the plans, evaluated conditions on Howelsen Hill and Emerald Mountain, and decided that for the safety of participants and volunteers, along with the potential threat of wildfire, the Fourth of July Fireworks show will not take place at this time. The current fire danger level is rated as MODERATE for the Steamboat Springs area.

“While cancelling the fireworks is never easy, I hope everyone understands why this decision had to be made,” said Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Chief, Mel Stewart.  “With a wildland fire currently burning west of Steamboat Springs and conditions showing no improvements before Tuesday, we wanted to provide as much advance notice as possible.”

All other events, outside the fireworks show, associated with the Fourth of July celebration in Steamboat Springs will continue as scheduled.  A comprehensive listing of Fourth of July events can be found at .

The City of Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association would like to thank its sponsors: Steamboat Radio, Steamboat Pilot & Today, Steamboat Ace Hardware, Native Excavating, Wyndham Vacation Resorts and Yampa Valley Bank.
