The City of Steamboat has published the preliminary April 2017 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ April sales taxes are 4.59% more compared to the April 2016 collections or an increase of $52,376. Year to date sales tax collection is 3.29% more than year to date through April 2016.
When comparing this April to the prior April, the greatest categorical increases were in marijuana at 19.03% and miscellaneous retail at 11.14%. Notable increases in collections by area were 16.23% for West Steamboat and 8.14% for the Highway 40 Corridor.
Accommodation Tax, with the passing of referendum 2A, is now primarily dedicated to local trail projects and Yampa Street improvements. Additionally, a small amount is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. April collections saw an decrease of 4.79% compared to April 2016.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. April 2017 use tax collections are $463,258 more compared to April 2016. Year to date net use tax collections are $871,976 compared to $335,192 for the same period last year.
