[ARCHIVED] Weekly Construction Update - May 22-26, 2017

Yampa Street

Final concrete work was finished and this portion of the project is substantially complete. Yampa Street between 5th and 10th Streets has been reopened to vehicular traffic and all new sidewalks on these blocks are also open. Phase II continues with a new concrete raised intersection at 11th and Yampa. In addition, crews have completed the concrete pours in front of Steamboat Meat & Seafood and Lockhart Auction.

For the week of May 22, minor shoulder closures will occur in the blocks between 5th and 10th Streets as crews complete punch list work for Phase I and the installation of the festival lighting system.

Yampa Street between the intersections at 10th and 12th Streets remains closed to vehicular traffic for the installation of a new concrete raised intersection at 11th Street. The 10th and 12th Street intersections will remain open to vehicular traffic. This closure is expected to last until early June. 
  • Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain open via the Core Trail in this area; with pedestrians from the north side routed to the Core Trail to safely navigate the work zone.
  • Businesses will remain accessible at all times
  • This work is associated with the Yampa Street Phase II improvements which is expected to be completed by November 1, 2017. 
Also during this week, vehicular traffic will be restricted to one-lane on 10th Street between Yampa and the alley for a period of one day while crews install an electrical line crossing 10th Street.

Bi-Weekly Public Informational Meetings will run every other Friday starting at 9am in Centennial Hall where city staff and contractors share details and answer questions about the status of the project. The next meeting will be held on Friday, June 2. 


Oak Street

Work for the week of May 22-26 will focus on the following areas: 
  • 8th and Oak parking lot is to be overlaid with asphalt and restriped. In addition, trees will be installed on the entire block.  
  • 7th to 8th construction will continue, placing concrete sidewalk, resetting existing paver sidewalk and installing curb and gutter on the south side of Oak.
  • Northwest corner of 7th & Oak – install handicap ramps with stamped colored concrete at the corner.
  • 6th to 7th north side construction will begin with prep work for the concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter.

9th Street Pedestrian Bridge

The 9th Street pedestrian bridge is closed for a refurbishment project that includes re-decking and painting of the entire structure.

Access to Howelsen Hill and the amenities on Howelsen Parkway from downtown is via 5th Street to Howelsen Parkway.  A signed detour from the intersection of 5th Street and Howelsen Parkway to the Ambulance/Search & Rescue Barn on Yampa Street is posted.  


US 40 Steamboat West

Businesses Open

Maintaining access to all businesses is a priority and all business remain open during construction. Signage and wayfinding continue to be installed during the required closures. Please respect all closures and use the designated detours and parking areas. Construction hours run from 7am-7pm Monday through Thursday; 7am-5pm on Fridays; and 8am-4pm on Saturday (if necessary).
