The City of Steamboat Springs Parks and Community Services Department will be conducting river improvement work in the Yampa River along Yampa Street, from Little Toots Park to the Ambulance Barn. The work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. The purpose of the project is to stabilize eroding banks within this stretch of river, utilizing boulders and native riparian vegetation and to improve recreational access points to the Yampa River.
The planned river work is part of the Downtown Improvement Plan funded by the City of Steamboat Springs. Additionally, in late summer/early fall of 2017, this stretch of the Yampa River Core Trail will be replaced with 12 foot wide concrete trail. New fencing will be installed to help protect the river banks, enhancing this scenic section of trail.
The planned river work has been reviewed and permitted by the Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Steamboat Springs Planning Services Department. This work is estimated to take approximately two weeks. Periodic closures on the Yampa River Core Trail may occur as work is executed.
