[ARCHIVED] 26th Steamboat Pentathlon Races Across Howelsen Hill

Delayed Lift Openings and Trail Impacts Anticipated

Steamboat Springs, CO – Hosted by the City of Steamboat Springs and the Parks & Community Services department, the 26th Annual Steamboat Pentathlon takes place Saturday morning, March 4, 2017 at Howelsen Hill.

The Steamboat Pentathlon is a five-stage, winter, multi-sport race that incorporates alpine skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, mountain biking and running.

Participants complete in a team, dynamic duo or individual category across either the short course, totaling nearly 14 miles, or the long course at almost 24 miles.

With all the action during the race, the public will be able to access the Poma lift starting around 11am and the Barrows chairlift at 1pm.

In addition, Long John trail will be closed until around 1pm and it is highly recommended to refrain from using Hakan Spar, Bluffs Loop and Howelsen Meadows Nordic trails until after 12pm.

Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch this popular event.  Join racers for the post-race lunch with a special $5 lunch ticket, available while supplies last on race day.  It’s the perfect opportunity to hear racers’ tales from the trail and what it was like to complete against each other and the mountain during this one-of-a-kind winter event.
