[ARCHIVED] Revocable Licenses and Signs in City Limits

The City would like to remind everyone that every year property owners need to get a revocable license for any private improvements, amenities, and items located within the city or state right-of way (ROW).  This includes permanent items such as signs and awnings, and portable items such as sandwich boards, outdoor seating, outdoor displays, bike racks, clothing racks and anything else located in the ROW. The permit can be purchased annually for $85 through the City’s Planning Department.

Renewals for 2017 have been mailed to businesses that obtained a Revocable License in 2016.  These renewals must be received by the City of Steamboat Springs prior to or on March 15, 2017.  Failure to renew may result in enforcement action.

Some important things to remember when thinking of putting out a sign or any other items on the sidewalk in front of your business include:

  • You must purchase a revocable permit, and provide evidence of insurance.
  • Pennants with or without commercial wording are not allowed per the sign code.
  • The code is in effect for public property within the Steamboat Springs city limits.
  • When placing a sign on your property, there are additional standards that need to be followed in regards to number, size, content and location.

Please contact Barb Wheeler, Code Enforcement Officer, with any questions and/or to purchase your revocable permit.
