In order to perform needed repairs on a culvert that is showing significant signs of deterioration, Village Drive will be closed to through traffic from Wednesday December 7th to Friday December 9th. Access to all properties and businesses will remain open.
The culvert that conveys Burgess Creek underneath Village Drive between Après Ski Way and Medicine Springs Drive is in need of repair. The metal culvert has virtually no bottom remaining and City crews have had to perform roadway repairs for the last few years after spring runoff. In order to protect existing infrastructure, City inspectors have deemed it necessary to perform repairs during current low flows. The work is weather dependent and it appears that a window has presented an opening to perform the work. Native Excavating will be performing the repair.
The road closure is needed in order to divert creek flows so that workers can safely repair the existing culvert. Crews will work for two days performing the repair. An additional day will be necessary for the repair to set before creek flows can be returned to the repaired culvert. The work was delayed until the Après Ski Way/Village Drive intersection improvement project was completed in order to reduce the impact to the surrounding properties and businesses.
A traffic detour will be set up around the work zone using Medicine Springs Drive until work is complete. Pedestrian traffic will be able to use Village Drive. Transit service for the Green Line and the Night Line running toward Condoland will be diverted during the roadway closure. Buses will instead run along Eagle Ridge Drive. The Highmark and the Trappeurs’ Crossing transit stops will be temporarily relocated. Look for notices at each stop for directions to the temporary transit stop location. The Orange Line route is unaffected.
