The City of Steamboat Springs has selected Gerber Berend Design Build, Inc. to perform repairs on the HS127 jump at Howelsen Hill. Work is expected to begin immediately on the largest of the jumps at Howelsen Hill which is in need of repairs to the stairs and railings.
According to a visual structural assessment of the jump done by Steamboat Engineering & Architectural Design (SEAD), the log columns of the jump do not raise any structural concerns at this time, but several other components, including the upper ramp surface, platform and decking, stairs, railings and some cross bracing components have reached the end of their service life, and need to be replaced or repaired. The City will use the engineering company’s recommendations and guidance to conduct these repairs in order of safety priority.
The City of Steamboat Springs is committed to the safety of those using the jumps at Howelsen Hill. The City is collaborating with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club on this project and we anticipate completing the necessary repairs to allow for use of the jump this winter.
