[ARCHIVED] Yampa Street Construction Update: Week of September 5th

Construction of the Yampa Street Improvements Project began May 23 and will continue the week of September 5. This phase of the project will be entering its sixteenth week of construction and work will be substantially completed by no later than November 24, 2016.

CLOSURE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 5: There will be no active work on Monday, September 5 as construction takes a break to observe Labor Day. Continuing on Tuesday, September 6, Yampa Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between 7th and 9th Streets, including the 8th Street intersection. The 7th and 9th Street intersections will remain open. As construction of streetscape elements becomes an element of the project, the north side sidewalk on this block of Yampa Street will be closed in front of the Police Station parking lot and the Residences of Old Town Condos. Due to sidewalk reconstruction, pedestrian access to Yampa Street from 8th Street will be limited. Pedestrians will be safely rerouted to the south side of the street and are encouraged to use 7th Street and 9th Street to access businesses on the south side of Yampa Street. This sidewalk closure is expected to be reopened by September 12. Work this week will include installation of utility conduit for undergrounding overhead electric lines, light pole foundations, street tree preparation, sidewalk and curb and gutter installations.

Maintaining access to all businesses is a priority. Signage and wayfinding will continue to be installed during the required closures. For everyone’s safety, we ask visitors, employees and residents to respect all closures and use the designated detours and parking areas.

Shoppers and visitors are reminded that additional nearby parking is available at the 10th and Yampa Street parking lot, Rodeo Grounds parking lot and Howelsen Hill parking lots, with easy access to Yampa Street over the 9th or 5th Street bridges.

Construction work hours are from 7am to 7pm Monday through Thursday and 7am – 5pm on Fridays.

YAMPA STREET PROGRESS UPDATE: During the week of August 29, Duckels Construction was able to install more utility conduit for the undergrounding of overhead electric lines and installed concrete sidewalks and curb and gutter adjacent to the Police Station parking as well as a retaining wall in front of the Residences at Old Town property.

PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS: Bi-weekly public information meetings are scheduled for
9 a.m. on Fridays. The next meeting is scheduled for September 9 at Aurum Food & Wine, 811 Yampa St.
