The City of Steamboat Springs is preparing for the 4th of July festivities, including the parade and fireworks, and will be closing several roads to accommodate these events. We encourage people to walk, bike or take the free transit bus. Additional transit buses will be running before the parade and before and after the fireworks on July 4th. If driving, we suggest that people park at the Steamboat Springs High School or at the Stockbridge Transit Center and walk downtown from there.
For the parade on Monday, Lincoln Avenue between 5th and 11th Streets, Yampa Street between 5th and 12th Streets, and the side streets between Yampa and Lincoln between 6th and 11th will be closed from 5 AM to 1 PM. During this time, SST buses will use the Oak Street detour and regular downtown Lincoln avenue stops will be moved to Oak Street at the same cross streets.
At 4:00 PM, or when the parking lots at Howelsen Hill are full, Howelsen Parkway between the tennis courts and the Howelsen Hill lodge will be closed to incoming traffic with the exception of ADA access and emergency vehicles. After the fireworks show, in an effort to move traffic out of the Howelsen Hill area, all traffic will be sent down river road to where it intersects with Mt. Werner Road. The 5th Street bridge will have intermittent closures and Howelsen Parkway will be closed westbound between the Ice Arena and the 5th street bridge. There will be no left turns allowed out of the Howelsen Ice Arena parking lot.
