[ARCHIVED] Gary Suiter Official City Manager for the City of Steamboat Springs

Gary Suiter Signing Contract

Gary Suiter has officially signed on as the City Manager for the City of Steamboat Springs. City Council and Suiter came to a contract agreement at the City Council meeting on June 7th. Suiter has been serving as the City’s Interim City Manager since October of 2015.

Suiter said Tuesday he is very excited to begin work officially as the City Manager, and is ready to hit the ground running. City Council President Walter Magill said City Council is looking forward to working together with Suiter on a permanent basis, in order to further council’s goals for improvements in the community.

City Council conducted a nationwide search for the City Manager position. Four finalists including Suiter came to Steamboat in May and were interviewed by Council members, staff members and the general public. Council ultimately voted to offer Suiter the position (in a 6 to 1 vote) and cited their approval of his performance as interim these last several months, his experience with Colorado ski town communities, his knowledge of fiscal sustainability, and his ability to speak frankly and make tough decisions.

Suiter’s previous experience includes interim management positions for Colorado counties and municipalities including La Plata County, Teton County, WY, Snowmass Village, Castle Pines, Berthoud, Salida, Rifle and others. In addition, he was the Town Manager for Snowmass Village from 1990 to 2002. Suiter is also the owner of Suiter & Associates in Carbondale.
