[ARCHIVED] Noxious Whitetop Weed Spraying Continuing through June

White Top Photo

It’s that time of year again!! The Whitetop is beginning to pop up all over town. Whitetop is a noxious weed and by State law all property owners are required to control this noxious weed on their property. While there are products available to non-contractors, it is strongly recommended that you use a contractor with a commercial applicator license. Failure to comply with this State law may result in enforcement action against the property owner, tenant or land user. Fines could be up to $999 per day with each day being a separate offense.

The Whitetop is blooming now and immediate action needs to be taken. Whitetop has an immense root system and the best treatment is to kill the roots, which requires chemical treatment. Pulling only removes what is above the ground. For more information on the best products to use or for a current list of local, licensed commercial applicators please contact Barb Wheeler, City of Steamboat Springs Code Enforcement Officer, 970-871-8274, bwheeler@steamboatsprings.net or Greg Brown, Routt County Weed Supervisor, 970-870-5246.
