Noxious Whitetop Weed Spraying will begin on May 30th, as the weather allows, in the City’s Right-of-Ways in town, and will continue for approximately 30 days.

The City of Steamboat Springs has hired a private contractor to spray for Whitetop in the City's Right-of-Way and will begin treating weeds as the weather allows and will continue for the next month.

A harmless blue dye will be used to identify areas that have been sprayed. If you have any questions, please contact Sheila Weekly at 879-1807 or Barb Wheeler at 871-8274.

FAQ's for Whitetop Weed Spraying in the City's R.O.W.

*What is the blue color around town?
The contractor spraying for noxious weeds uses a harmless blue dye to mark where the herbicide has been sprayed. It will disappear in a day or two.

*Can my children or pets be affected by coming near the spray areas?
Once the herbicide has dried, it is okay for children and pets to walk through the sprayed area if needed. Dry times depend on weather but are usually an hour or two. Just to be extra safe, it would be good to keep children and pets off sprayed areas for 24 hours.

*How long will it take for the weeds to die?
Depending on the weed, you will usually see some color change within a week. Complete browning of the weed normally takes 2-3 weeks.
