Construction of the much-anticipated Yampa Street Improvement Project is scheduled to begin the week of May 23. The City of Steamboat Springs has identified Duckels Construction of Steamboat Springs as the apparent low bidder for the project.
The first phase of the project, to be completed by Fall 2016, will include the following work:
• Replacing a three-block stretch of aged sewer main from 7th to 10th Street;
• Burying the existing overhead electrical lines from 5th to 12th Streets;
• Installing a promenade and sidewalks from 5th to 9th Streets, including street lighting, trees and landscaping. The work will also introduce a raised intersection and stop signs at the 7th and Yampa Street intersection.
Throughout the project, access to businesses in the project area will remain open. Construction updates will be available weekly on the city’s webpage and on a project hotline.
Duckels’ project schedule indicates the initial work the week of May 23 will be sewer main replacement starting at 10th street. More details will be forthcoming once the City is under contract with Duckels Construction.
During summer months, work hours for the project will be Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional work hours including potential work on Saturdays may be considered during the shoulder construction season.
The project team, including Duckels Construction and the City, plans a significant public information program to keep businesses and the general public updated on construction progress and impacts on access to the area throughout the project.
The project team is working with Main Street Steamboat and the Steamboat Springs Chamber Association to coordinate outreach and activities designed to help the public find their way through
the construction zone. Efforts include establishing alternate parking areas and providing an “Open for Business” effort to coincide with construction.
A public project kick off meeting will be held prior to the beginning of construction. Additional project details will be available at that meeting. Details on meeting location and time will be announced once confirmed.
