[ARCHIVED] Car versus SST Bus Accident

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue was dispatched to a multi-vehicle car accident involving a passenger vehicle and an SST bus at the intersection of Highway 40 and County Road 42. Response included 1 Fire Engine, 1 Fire Command Vehicle, and 4 ambulances staffed by the on-duty crew of 8 and 5 off- duty personnel. Updates from Routt County Communications included that there was one person semi-conscious in a passenger vehicle needing extrication and multiple people injured on an SST bus.
Engine 6-2 was the first unit to arrive on scene. Incident command was initiated by Captain Scott Hetrick. The on-duty ambulances arrived after clearing from concurrent calls. Two reserve ambulances quickly arrived on scene after they were staffed by off-duty personnel. One occupant was extricated from the passenger vehicle, using the “Jaws of Life,” the patient was transported in critical condition to Yampa Valley Medical Center. Five additional patients were transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center in the remaining three ambulances, 2 with moderate injuries and 3 with minor injuries.
