The City of Steamboat Springs will begin contacting property owners that are using temporary buildings for long term storage in an effort to bring these structures into conformance with the Community Development Code.
“The convenience of using these temporary buildings such as large steel shipping containers, trailers, or manufactured buildings for long term storage in commercial, industrial, and residential areas has been growing in popularity in Steamboat Springs”, says City Planner Toby Stauffer. However when these structures are used for an extended period of time, they are essentially functioning as an accessory building and are subject to City zoning regulations including building location, set-backs, lot coverage, architectural requirements, and use.
Container structures that are not in conformance may need to be relocated or removed from the property. For more information, please contact the Department of Planning and Community Development at 970-871-8258.
