[ARCHIVED] Humane Society Taking Over Operations of Animal Shelter

Starting Friday May 1st, 2015 the Routt County Humane Society will be taking over the operations of the Steamboat Springs Animal Shelter on Critter Court. The City has been in discussions with the nonprofit for the past several months and have finalized a contract between the two parties. The City will maintain ownership of the building and provide capital improvements as needed, and the Shelter will take over the day to day maintenance of the building and the operations of the shelter.

The Humane Society has hired a Shelter Director – Connie Harger, and the two City Animal Shelter Employees will transition to employment with the Animal Shelter so Harger says the transition should be seamless. She adds that the Humane Society is discussing plans for the future and are hoping to get the community more involved.

“We are excited that in this 30th year since the Routt County Humane Society began, we are taking this one step further to become a staffed humane society and full adoption facility,” said Harger.
