Transit users within the City may notice a few changes and improvements to transit stops over the next month. Transit stops will see enhancements at Shadow Run, Herbage, Sundance Plaza, Rotary Park, Dream Island, as well as stops along Highway 40 at Hilltop Parkway, Iron Horse/Trafalgar Drive and Anglers Drive. The improvements will include new bus shelters in some locations, increased pedestrian connectivity, safer bus stop locations, and new bear proof trash cans. Some stops will be temporarily moved to nearby locations. Bus schedules will not be impacted, but please allow extra time to meet your connection during construction.
As part of a Federal Transit Administration grant funded project, the City will be improving stop amenities at the Shadow Run, Herbage, Sundance Plaza, and Mt Werner/US40 – Rotary Park stop locations. Improvements will include new shelter structures and bear proof trash cans at the first three listed locations. The Shadow Run stop will see the biggest change with improved pedestrian connectivity on the intersection corner, a concrete bus stop pad including some drainage improvements, and a relocation of the bus stop location to improve site distance at the busy Walton Creek/Whistler Road intersection. The transit stop design is being performed by Four Points Engineering and construction is being performed by Native Excavating. The overall project budget is approximately $160,000. All work is anticipated to be complete by Nov. 1st.
As part of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) construction project now underway along US40, a number of transit stop improvements are being included in the work to enhance safety along the busy corridor. The Dream Island stop located on the north side of US40 is being moved to the east away from the Dream Island Plaza intersection and an enhanced pedestrian crossing is being constructed to allow transit users to cross with active warning signs included as part of the improvements. The Iron Horse and Steamboat Square stops located near the intersection of Hilltop Parkway and US40 and the stop near the Fish Creek Mobile Home Park located near the intersection of Anglers Drive and US40 are being moved closer to the intersection so that users can cross at the improved intersection corners where signals can allow pedestrians to cross in a protected manner. Bus shelter structures will be added at these three locations. As CDOT and Connell Resources complete these transit stop improvements, the City will begin opening the new stops in a phased manner. Signage will be posted at each current location directing users to the new location for a few months until everyone becomes accustomed to the new stops.
