[ARCHIVED] Ceremony Honors New Firefighters and Deputy Chief

SSFR Pinning March 2026 NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-March 26, 2026-Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue (SSFR) will host a pinning ceremony next week to formally recognize its newest firefighters and welcome a new deputy chief to the department.

“Receiving your badge is something every firefighter remembers for the rest of their career,” said Chief Chuck Cerasoli. “It represents months of hard work, sacrifice, and the beginning of a lifelong commitment to serving others. We’re proud of Doug and Nate and confident they will uphold the values and traditions of this department.”

Firefighters Doug Bloom and Nate Birdseye will be sworn in during a badge pinning ceremony on Monday evening, March 30. The department will also recognize Deputy Chief Ian Satterfield, who joined SSFR in July 2025.

The ceremony marks the culmination of a rigorous six-month training academy and signifies the transition from probationary status to sworn firefighter. In addition to receiving their badges, the new firefighters will be presented with new helmets, symbolizing their advancement within the department.

The pinning ceremony is a longstanding tradition in the fire service, honoring individuals upon graduation or promotion by formally presenting their badge. The event will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, in Centennial Hall, located at 124 10th Street

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue serves the City of Steamboat Springs and the surrounding Steamboat Springs Area Fire Protection District. The department is committed to reducing human suffering and property loss, protecting the environment, and promoting life safety through emergency response, wildland fire mitigation, public education, and fire prevention programs.

SSFR provides emergency services across approximately 385 square miles, including the 10 square miles within city limits. The department is staffed by career firefighters operating in three shifts to ensure 24/7, year-round coverage.
