Steamboat Springs, Colorado–September 2, 2025-Crisp leaves and fallen branches are part of the fall season. As autumn approaches, gather them up and bring them to the Residential Fall Leaf Drop-off & Chipping Event for a cleaner, greener way to handle your yard waste.
The City of Steamboat Springs, Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council, and Twin Apex are teaming up for a free, residential-only event on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 8:30 AM–12 PM at the Milner Landfill.
Leaves and limbs will be chipped and repurposed for composting and agricultural use—keeping yards tidy, reducing wildfire risk, and putting fall’s bounty back into local soil.
“Now is the time to get ready for snow and clean up all those leaves,” said Community Recycling Coordinator Alicia Archibald. “What better way than to have them composted.”
Twin Apex Waste Solutions has generously offered to host the event for residents for FREE at a designated site at the Milner Landfill property for chipping and composting post-event. No commercial activities will be accepted for this event.
Materials will be mulched and used in Twin Apex’s composting operation at the Steamboat Eco Center. Those with larger loads or oversized debris can dispose of them at Twin Apex for a fee.
Proper vegetation management is one of the most cost-effective ways to protect your home from wildfire. Clearing the first 5 feet around your house—the Home Ignition Zone—helps prevent embers from igniting structures.
“Fall is one of the easiest times to tackle it,” added Josh Hankes, Executive Director of the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council.
Residents who do not take advantage of this free event, or who have larger diameter limbs or other biomass materials, can dispose of them at Twin Apex for a fee.
