STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 11, 2024-Spring cleaning is in the air, and it isn’t contained to just households, but will see projects to clean and remove scoria and holiday lights across three traditional locations. The following projects are set for April:
Downtown Holiday Light Removal – April 20 & 21
The city in partnership with Mainstreet Steamboat, which manages the holiday lights through funding from the city, has contracted with SAVATREE to remove the holiday lights in the trees along both sides of Lincoln Avenue/US40 on April 20 & 21. If there are weather impacts, work will move to the following weekend, as needed. The lights are removed and replaced annually to maintain tree health.
Day 1 sees on-street parking closed from 7am to 7pm on eastbound Lincoln Ave/US40 from 12th to 3rd Streets. In addition, the right-hand traffic lane will be closed starting at 9am and lasting until around 2pm for a large bucket truck to safely access lights on numerous large trees. The westbound parking lane on Lincoln Ave/US40 from 7th to 8th Street will close at 7am so the bucket truck can perform work that afternoon between 2pm to 7pm. Day 2 sees parking along westbound Lincoln Avenue/US40 between 3rd and 12th Streets closed while hand crews finish removing lights. All work is being coordinated with CDOT which is executing repairs on Lincoln Avenue/US40 and working Monday through Friday.
The project is timed around spring break when less traffic is anticipated to be on the roads. Closing parking as work progresses down the road isn’t a viable option because it’s extremely difficult to clear vehicles once parked. Steamboat Springs Transit operations will continue as normal during the lane closures.
Mt. Werner Medians & Scoria Clean Up – April 22-26
Contractors will remove scoria and cleanup medians on Mt. Werner Rd and Circle starting April 22. The project is anticipated to run from 7am to 7pm, daily and estimated to last through the week. Work will continue into the following week if there are weather impacts. No lane closures are planned but crews will be near traffic with small equipment to perform the work, so please SLOW DOWN.
US40 Medians & Scoria Clean Up – April 29-May 5
The left-hand traffic lanes on both eastbound and westbound US40 will be closed starting Monday, April 29 while hand crews and small equipment remove scoria and cleanup medians. The project starts at Walton Creek Rd and moves toward the 3rd Street intersection in stages. Additionally, aspens damaged over the winter will be replaced. The project is anticipated to take approximately seven days (weather permitting) and run from 7am to 7pm.
The city operates under an MS4 Stormwater Program as well as a Particulate Matter-10 Air Quality Maintenance Program from the State of Colorado. These permits require the city take measures to control particulates from entering the air and waterways. The spring work goes directly toward ensuring the city meets these requirements under both regulations. For the safety of workers, maintain slower speeds in the work zone and drive safely.
