[ARCHIVED] Barricaded Incident on 8th Street

8th Street NewsFlash

1:05 pm - Incident has concluded and all shelter in place restrictions are lifted. 8th St and immediate area around residence will remain closed. Additional details from SSPD and RCSO will be shared later.

12:24pm - The SSPD/RCSO incident team will be deploying flash bangs and gas munitions inside the home to resolve the situation. Police Chief Beckett asks for everyone to stay away from the scene and not gather around the immediate area.

11:30am - With the situation ongoing, the Steamboat Mountain School on Oak Street will be evacuated as a precaution. Again, there is no immediate threat to the community or school, but law enforcement agencies would like students away from the scene. Parent pick up location has been set up at the Steamboat Springs High School Commons Area.   

10:45am - 8th between Oak and Pine and some surrounding streets remain closed due to barricaded individual threating suicide in home. SSPD & Routt County Sheriff's Office have the scene contained. The school is on lock down and surrounding properties have excecated as a precaution only. There is no threat to the community. Please avoid this area as law enforcement and mental health professionals work the incident.
