STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-November 15, 2022-The city has published the final September 2022 sales, use, and accommodation tax report. The September 2022 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 10.19% higher compared to the September 2021 collections or an increase of $304,786.
Year-to-date sales tax collection is 19.93% more than year-to-date through the same period last year. For the past 5 years, September collections represent about 8% of annual collections.
When comparing this September to the same month last year the notable increases in collections by category are in construction & home improvement at 32.04% and utilities at 11.59% over last September. Increases were seen in most geographical area categories.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. September collections are 6.26% higher compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date accommodation tax collection is 32.26% more than the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. September net use tax collections total $183,832. Year-to-date net use tax collections are up 9% through the same period last year.
