STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 15, 2022-The city has published the final July 2022 sales, use, and accommodation tax report. The July 2022 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 5.94% higher compared to the July 2021 collections or an increase of $185,352. 

Year-to-date sales tax collection is 22.72% more than year-to-date through the same period last year. For the past 5 years, July collections represent about 9% of annual collections.  

When comparing this July to the same month last year the notable increases in collections by category are in construction & home improvement at 46.94% and utilities at 16.26% over last July. The out-of-town area is up due to an increase in vendors in the construction and miscellaneous retail industries engaged in business in our jurisdiction. 

Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. July collections saw a decrease of 9.37% compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date accommodation tax collection is 39.20% more than the same period last year. 

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. July net use tax collections total $232,020. Year-to-date net use tax collections are up 38% from the same period last year.
