STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 1, 2022-The city has published the preliminary June 2022 sales, use, and accommodation tax report. The June 2022 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 16.86% higher compared to the June 2021 collections or an increase of $498,481.
Year-to-date sales tax collection is 25.57% more than year to date through the same period last year. For the past 5 years, June collections represent about 8% of annual collections.
When comparing this June to the same month last year the notable increases in collections by category are in construction & home improvement at 77.15% due to larger capital projects around town and miscellaneous retail at 14.18% over last June. Increases in collections by area were seen in most categories.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. June collections were 0.72% more compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date accommodation tax collection is 48.02% more than the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. June net use tax collections total $594,438. Year to date net use tax collections is up 59% through the same period last year.
