Police Generic

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-July 18, 2022-The Steamboat Springs Police arrested Daniel Domin on July 13, 2022, on six counts of felony stalking and is providing additional developments on the arrest.

“While this is an ongoing case with multiple agencies involved, it is important that the community understand the information that led to the felony arrest,” said Police Chief Sherry Burlingame. “The safety of the community remains our top priority.”

Domin booking PhotoThe US Secret Service (USSS) shared a report on June 23 with SSPD concerning Daniel Domin who allegedly made threats against a former high-ranking politician. SSPD and the USSS contacted Domin who denied making threats against politicians, so the investigation was closed.

Shortly thereafter, SSPD was informed that the FBI were also looking into other alleged threats by Domin and his increasingly alarming behavior towards multiple people. Domin stated he would “slaughter” any law enforcement that came to get him. The FBI referred the case to the SSPD for further investigation.

A former acquaintance of Domin’s called the SSPD on July 3 asking for a welfare check on Domin.  The friend said Domin was demonstrating increasingly manic behavior and made threatening statements towards him. Four days later (July 7) SSPD was contacted by the Teller County Sheriff’s Office in reference to Domin who allegedly was making increasingly alarming threats towards a friend.

During the investigation, detectives concluded Domin made credible threats to at least six individuals, both family and friends, over that past several months and his behavior was growing more and more manic. Detectives completed an arrest warrant as well as two accompanying search warrants for Domin’s home and vehicle.

Domin was arrested without incident on the warrant on July 13 for six felony charges of stalking by SSPD and RCSO personnel with help from the regional All Crimes Enforcement Team (ACET). SSPD immediately served the search warrants and seized 13 firearms from Domin’s residence as well as numerous magazines and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Within 24 hours of being taken into custody Domin was transported to West Springs Health in Grand Junction for mental health assessment and treatment. His bond was set at $25,000.
