YRBP Opening NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 20, 2022-As the Yampa Valley transitions into spring with grass greening up across town, the first flowers of spring are showing off their colors and the nesting ospreys returned for their 6th year. The Yampa River Botanic Park will welcome visitors for the season starting Monday, April 25.

“We’re excited to show off the early season in the park and all that comes with spring,” commented Executive Director Jennifer MacNeil. “There is lots in store this season and we hope folks will join us for fun events and stroll through often to see the changing seasons as we move through spring, summer and fall.”

Early flowers such as crocus, glory of the snow and draba, are already showing off their early season colors. The osprey pair which has been raising young for the past few years in the nest along the Yampa River returned on April 4.

Popular events are set to also take flight this summer with Music on the Green, Yoga on the Green, Spring Plant Benefit, Storytime, Fairy Garden House Contest, Lulie’s Wildflowers & Watercolors, Piknik Theatre on the Green, Meditation with the Monks, and the signature Passport Through the Park scheduled for June 25.

Once a sprawling horse pasture, the six-acre Yampa River Botanic Park is now home to more than 60 unique gardens, thousands of plant species, animals, and hosts special events of all shapes and sizes. An innovative experiment in private/public partnerships, the Botanic Park is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk, from April 25 through October 31.
