STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-November 30, 2021-A joint project will bring new life to hard-to-recycle materials when the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council’s (YVSC) new Yampa Valley Recycles Depot comes online December 1, 2021.
“After hosting numerous successful single day recycling events, it was obvious to us that a more permanent solution was needed,” said YVSC Waste Diversion Director Winn Cowman. “The first of its kind in Northwest Colorado, the new facility will create increased and ongoing residential recycling opportunities across the region, which we hope will continue to grow.”
The facility will be housed at 1801 Lincoln Avenue, the former location of Windemere Landscape & Garden Center. Initially the facility will be open three days a week from 12 pm to 4 pm. The Yampa Valley Recycles Depot will accept several hard to recycle materials including:
YVSC is partnering with several unique vendors to transport and breakdown the items brought to the new facility. Blue Star Recyclers based in Denver provides electronic recycling services and has a mission of creating jobs for individuals with autism and other disabilities. Spring Back Colorado in Commerce City breaks down mattresses and builds up lives, providing employment opportunities for the disenfranchised while diverting a significant amount of waste from our area landfills.
“We’re excited to partner with the city and county on this program,” said YVSC Executive Director Michelle Stewart. “Our goal is to see this effort continue to grow, expand and formalize a critical service for our community that keeps harmful materials out of the landfills.”
The trial hard-to-recycle program is a partnership between the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, Routt County, and the City of Steamboat Springs. For information, visit https://yvsc.org/depotinfo.
