STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-November 17, 2021-A Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) regional coach was involved in an accident this evening, Wednesday, November 17, 2021, around approximately 5:30pm on US Highway 40 near the intersection of County Road 29.
“Our thoughts are with all of those involved in the accident,” said City Manager Gary Suiter. “We’re grateful to the emergency responders and law enforcement who responded along with SST personnel who assisted on the scene.”
The SST regional coach which was traveling westbound toward Craig, Colorado, went off the road after a passenger vehicle came into the westbound lane and stuck the bus, one mile east of the City of Craig.
Six passengers who were on the bus as well as the SST driver were transported to the hospital with injuries. The single occupant of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
SST regional service provides two daily departures in the morning from Craig that travel through Hayden, Milner, and Steamboat II before arriving in Steamboat Springs. In the afternoon, return service leaves Steamboat Springs again stopping in Steamboat II, Milner, and Hayden before arriving in Craig.
Colorado State Patrol, along with the state, which is sending a special unit team from Breckenridge, are investigating the accident and will have additional information as it becomes available.
