[ARCHIVED] US40 West Street Closure Implemented for Sidewalk Project

US40 West Sidewalk Paving NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-October 5, 2021-The US40 sidewalk project west of downtown Steamboat Springs will begin paving accesses, parking and other areas starting as soon as tomorrow, Wednesday, October 6.

“The project is moving along, and the new sidewalks and configuration of the area is really taking shape,” commented City Engineer Ben Beall. “While concrete pours continue to flow along the eastern section of the project, key street zones will now be paved moving us past a key milestone.”

The project team will be paving accesses and parking areas, and the utility cut across Conestoga Circle starting as early as Wednesday Oct 6 and running through October 10. During this time, work is also scheduled for Saturday.

During paving there will be a one lane closure of US40 in the eastbound direction with one lane of traffic still open in that direction to facilitate the work. While crossing Conestoga Circle with an asphalt patch, traffic will have to alternate with flaggers directing traffic. Access to businesses will remain open throughout the work.

The project installs an eight-foot sidewalk along US40 running between the Community Center to Loggers Lane and on the north side from Indian Trails to Conestoga Circle.  In addition to the sidewalks, project work includes utility relocation, water main installation, storm sewer improvements, and access modifications to adjacent buildings. The total $2M cost of the project covers design, property acquisition and construction and comes with a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation.
