STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 1, 2021-The city has published the preliminary July 2021 sales, use, and accommodation tax report. The July 2021 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 30.40% higher compared to the July 2020 collections or an increase of $722,219. 

Last July’s sales tax revenues were still rebounding from the lifting of local restrictions on short term accommodations. July 2021 collections are 25.44% higher compared to July 2019. For the past 5 years, July collections represent about 9% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 25.02% more than year to date through July 2020. 

When comparing this July to the same month last year there were notable increases in collections by category in lodging & amenities, restaurants, and miscellaneous retail. Notable increases in collections by area were seen across all geographical areas. 

Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. July collections were up substantially compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 33.23% compared to the same period last year.

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs.  This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. July net use tax collections total $636,039. Year to date net use tax collections is up 148% through the same period last year.
