STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 24, 2021-The City Clerk is in the process of verifying or curing petitions from 15 candidates in their effort to fill one of the four open seats on City Council in the November 2 election. 

The City Clerk has verified eight petitions, five petitions remain to be cured (which allows the applicant to fix signature mistakes or verify information on the petition) and two petitions have yet to be determined if eligible. The cure process allows until Friday, August 27 at 5:30pm for the applicant to correct the submittal. The following individuals have submitted: 

 In addition, Dakotah McGinlay (District 3) and Kathi Meyer (At Large) have not yet been determined if eligible. The determination centers around questions of residency and term limits, respectively.

Potential council applicants had to fill out a candidate affidavit and a nomination petition signed by at least 25 registered electors within their district. The at-large petition had to be signed by at least 25 registered electors from the entire city. Paperwork was due to City Hall on Monday, August 23 at 5:30pm.

Eligible candidates must be 18 years of age or older on the day of the election. They must reside in the municipality for a period of at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election and must be a resident of the district that they will represent at the time the nomination petition is filed. The at-large candidate can reside anywhere within the city limits.  

The newly elected City Council members shall take office at the first City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, following the November 2 election. During that same meeting, the President and President Pro-Tem are elected by the new council.
