STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 11, 2021-Mt. Werner Water & Sanitation District (MWWSD) Sewer Interceptor Project will be shifting its work zone starting Monday, August 23. This segment sees work occurring on and under Mt. Werner Road at the intersection of US40 and south along the east side of US40.
“The project remains on schedule and crews are making significant progress,” commented General Manager Frank Alfone. “This is a major infrastructure project that will serve the community for decades to come and we greatly appreciate everyone’s patience.”
Mt. Werner Road and the Mt. Werner Road sidewalk that connections the Base Area to the Yampa River Core Trail will experience closures and detours during this portion of construction. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be redirected via detour routes around the impacted area and across US 40 at the Walton Creek Road/US 40 signalized intersection.
Native Excavating will shift its focus to the intersection starting on Monday, August 23. Variable Message Sign Display Boards and other signage informing travelers of the closure and project work will be positioned later this week or early the following week.
As crews work on and under Mt. Werner Road, a one-lane closure with traffic control allowing alternating traffic will be set up. Motorists may use Pine Grove Road and Walton Creek Road as alternate routes to avoid the construction zone.
Since the only sidewalk along Mt. Werner Road, under the US 40 underpass, travels through the construction zone, pedestrians and bicyclists will need to detour around the construction zone using Mt. Werner Road to Pine Grove Road to Walton Creek Road to the Core Trail.
Phase II of the Sewer Interceptor Project, which runs through mid-October, installs 3,000 liner feet of new pipe along and under US40 and Mt. Werner Road. The design parameters for the project were based on the results of the MWWSD Sanitary Sewer Trunk Replacement Master Plan performed by Civil Design Consultants. Engineering and Design Plans was prepared by Landmark Consultants, Inc. and Native Excavating Inc. is the General Contractor
The two-year project has Phase 2 taking place this summer through October 15, followed by Phase 3 during the summer of 2022. Both Phase 2 & 3 of the project are funded in part with a Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority Loan (3M).
