STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 2, 2021- The city has published the preliminary June 2021 sales, use, and accommodation tax report. The June 2021 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 43.94% higher compared to the June 2020 collections or an increase of $889,390.
Last June’s sales tax revenues were slowly rebounding from the lifting of local restrictions on short term accommodations. June 2021 collections are 28.18% higher compared to June 2019. For the past 5 years, June collections represent about 8% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 23.47% more than year to date through June 2020.
When comparing this June to the same month last year there were notable increases in collections by category in lodging & amenities, restaurants, and miscellaneous retail. Notable increases in collections by area were seen across all geographical areas.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. June collections were up substantially compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 29.06% compared to the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. June net use tax collections total $187,187. Year to date net use tax collections is up 119% through the same period last year.
