STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-June 23, 2021-The Routt County Regional Building Department, and the City of Steamboat Springs have charged up the permit process by updating the policy around installing Electric Vehicle charging stations in residential and commercial locations.
“A building permit application is required for review prior to installing an EV charging station,” said Routt County Building Official Todd Carr. “However, we have a fast review process and a fee reduction if the submitted plan follows the EV checklist.”
The Building Permit Application must be submitted to Routt County Building Department when installing an EV Charging Station and the plan review process takes five (5) working days. Both a licensed Colorado Structural and Electrical Engineers Designs and Stamps are required on the plans.
In addition, a site plan, electrical/utility plan, electrical diagram/electrical conduit layout plan, concrete pad structural design, charging station specifications and vehicle bollards are required with each submittal.
The following permit fees apply to EV Charging Stations:
- Building Department Electrical Permit Fee of $125.00
- Building Department Plan Review & Administration Fee of $100.00
- All other Department Review and Permit Fees, and Tax Fees will follow Jurisdictional Requirements.
The update policy follows the recently adopted Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan which identifies barriers to, and strategies supporting EV adoption through Steamboat Springs, Routt County, and the Yampa Valley region.
“We want to make it easy and convenient for folks to put in EV Chargers,” continue Carr. “The new policy direction takes a step in that direction, and we hope to see more charging stations incorporated in residential units moving forward.”
