Sales Tax - April 2020

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 15, 2021-The city has published the Final February 2021 sales, use, and accommodation tax report. The February 2021 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 5.39% lower compared to the February 2020 collections or a decrease of $165,707. For the past 5 years, February collections represent about 10% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 5.38% less than year to date through February 2020. 

When comparing this February to the same month last year the notable increases in collections by category are in construction & home improvement at 27.20%, and liquor stores at 12.87% over last February. Notable decreases were reflected in the restaurant, down 21.82%, and lodging & amenities categories, down 16.38%. 

Notable increases in collections by area include an increase of 97.82% for Out of Town and 16.03% for Regional. The mountain area and downtown were down compared to the same period last year.

Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. February collections were down 18.53% compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is down 18.36% compared to the same period last year.

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs.  This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. February net use tax collections total $154,272. Year to date net use tax collections is up 110% through the same period last year.
