STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 3, 2020-City of Steamboat Springs’ June 2020 sales taxes are 11.76% less compared to the June 2019 collections or a decrease of $266,889. (see the Full Report). For the past 5 years, June collections represent about 8% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 7.13% less than year to date through June 2019.
When comparing this June to the same month last year, the notable increases in collections by category are reflected in Sporting goods at 40.85% and Liquor stores at 14.86% over last June. Notable increases in collections by area is 4.14% in the West Steamboat area.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects since the Yampa Street improvements portion of referendum 2A was completed last year. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. June collections were down 50.97% compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is down 17.54% compared to the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. June net use tax collections total $388,141. Year to date net use tax collections are down 32% through the same period last year.
