STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 14, 2020-As businesses operate under new public health guidelines and restrictions around the coronavirus, the City of Steamboat Springs looks to assist by further extending payment for April sales tax to June 20, 2020.
“Many members of City Council are local business owners and we understand the pressures of trying to operate during the pandemic,” said Steamboat Springs City Council President Jason Lacy. “These challenges are not lost on the city and extending the deadline is one way we can support local businesses during this unprecedented period.”
April 2020 sales tax collections, which are currently due next week, have been pushed back another month to June 20. The city is asking that businesses still file paperwork by May 20, but payment of the tax does not need to be made until June 20. In addition, May sales tax collections are also currently scheduled for the June 20 date.
City Council earlier extended payments for February, March, and now April and will continue to evaluate further extensions in the future. This extension applies only to the city’s 4.5% sales tax and 1% accommodation tax.
It’s important to note that a business’ online sales tax returns will continue to show the original due date; however, no penalties or interest will be added so long as payment is made by the revised date. The city recommends that any business whose finances allow, please pay sales tax on time instead of waiting.
