STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 10, 2020-In an effort to support local businesses that have been impacted by this unprecedented slow-down across the economy due to COVID-19, the City of Steamboat Springs will extend payment for March sales tax returns by 30 days.
This is the second instance the city has extended sales tax payments. Previously, the February sales tax return payments were extended by a month and are currently due April 20. City Council will evaluate further extensions in the future.
March 2020 sales tax collections, which are due April 20, will now be extended to May 20. Returns must still be filed by the regular due date of April 20, but payment of the tax does not need to accompany the paperwork. This extension applies only to the city’s 4.5% sales tax and 1% accommodation tax.
It’s important to note that a business’ online sales tax returns will continue to show the original due date; however, no penalties or interest will be added so long as payment is made by May 20. The city recommends that any business whose finances allow, please pay sales tax on time instead of waiting.
