STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 1, 2020-The City of Steamboat has published the preliminary February 2020 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ February 2020 sales taxes are 11.21% more compared to the February 2019 collections or an increase of $302,577. For the past 5 years, February collections represent about 10% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 9.17% more than year to date through February 2019.

When comparing this February to the same month last year, the greatest categorical increases were in Lodging & Amenities at 23.29% and Sporting Goods at 12.00%. Notable increases in collections by area were 25.09% for the Mountain area and 8.84% for the Highway 40 Corridor.

Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects since the Yampa Street improvements portion of referendum 2A was completed last year. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. February collections were up 22.61% compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 16.25% compared to the same period last year

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs.  This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. February net use tax collections total $64,215. Year to date net use tax collections are down 33% through the same period last year.
